Free cancellationThe Pearl District transforms Portland's industrial past into its cosmopolitan present. Our vacation rentals in the Pearl District put you in converted warehouses and sleek high-rises between NW 9th and 15th, where loading docks became gallery spaces and rail yards became parks. This is Portland at its most walkable — score a perfect 100 on Walk Score — with Powell's City of Books anchoring the southern edge and the boutiques of NW 23rd just blocks away.
From Jamison Square's splash fountain to the hidden tranquility of Lan Su Chinese Garden, the Pearl offers both energy and escape. Our 25 properties range from authentic timber-and-brick lofts in the Brewery Blocks to modern condos with Mt. Hood views. Whether you're here for First Thursday gallery walks or just want everything within a 10-minute stroll, the Pearl delivers urban Portland without needing a car.
Everything's within blocks — groceries at Whole Foods, coffee at Barista, dinner at Andina. Portland's most walkable neighborhood bar none.
Gallery hop the first Thursday of each month when Blue Sky, Blackfish, and dozens more stay open late with new exhibitions.
The NS Line runs every 15 minutes along 10th and 11th, connecting you to PSU, OHSU, and across the river to the Lloyd District.
Kids splash in Jamison Square's fountain while Tanner Springs recreates pre-settlement wetlands — both designed by world-class landscape architects.
The original Blitz-Weinhard brewery complex now houses BridgePort Brewpub, Deschutes, and 10 Barrel — craft beer history in every block.
The world's largest independent bookstore occupies an entire city block at Burnside — browse 1.5 million books across color-coded rooms.
Start your Pearl District morning at Barista (NW 13th & Alberta) where the baristas actually remember your cortado order by day three. From there, lose yourself in Powell's City of Books — the Purple Room houses the cafe if you need a break from browsing. Thursdays bring First Thursday art walks when galleries between 8th and 13th stay open until 9pm, often with complimentary wine.
Jamison Square becomes Portland's urban beach in summer — kids run through the fountain while parents sip coffee from Sterling Coffee Roasters. One block north, Tanner Springs Park recreates the area's original wetland ecosystem with boardwalks winding through native grasses. For actual beach vibes, check out the bocce courts and fire tables at The Fields Park (NW 11th & Overton).
Weekend mornings mean the Pearl Farmers Market at NW 8th & Davis — smaller than the Portland Saturday Market but with excellent local vendors. The Ecotrust building hosts the market plus Patagonia and a rooftop terrace worth finding.
You honestly don't need a car here. The Portland Streetcar NS Line runs along NW 10th (southbound) and 11th (northbound) every 12-15 minutes, connecting to everywhere that matters. Hop on at any stop — no ticket needed if you're staying within the Pearl and downtown.
For longer trips, the streetcar connects to MAX Light Rail at Union Station (6 blocks east) or Pioneer Square (15-minute ride south). PDX Airport sits 40 minutes away via MAX Red Line from Union Station — way easier than dealing with parking or rideshare surge pricing. If you do drive, know that street parking requires the Portland Parking app and maxes at 3 hours.
Car2Go and ReachNow car shares park throughout the Pearl for quick errands. But honestly, between the streetcar, bikeshare stations every few blocks, and everything being walkable, you'll forget you even considered renting a car. Even Nob Hill vacation rentals on NW 23rd are just a 15-minute stroll west.
The Pearl District takes its dining seriously. Start with brunch at Irving Street Kitchen (NW 13th) where the lemon ricotta pancakes justify the weekend wait. For dinner, Andina (NW 12th & Glisan) serves Peruvian small plates that'll ruin you for anywhere else — book ahead or eat at the bar.
Coffee culture thrives here beyond the obvious Starbucks Reserve. Sterling Coffee Roasters (NW 13th & Lovejoy), Barista (multiple locations), and Upper Left Roasters (NW 10th) all roast their own beans. For cocktails, Teardrop Lounge (NW 10th & Everett) mixes drinks like a laboratory experiment, while The Crown (NW 11th & Hoyt) pours straightforward classics in a space that feels like Don Draper's living room.
Beer lovers can tour the Brewery Blocks — start at Deschutes (NW 11th), walk to 10 Barrel (NW 14th), and end at BridgePort's massive brewpub (NW 13th & Marshall). For late-night eats, Sizzle Pie stays open until 3am on weekends, slinging New York-style slices to the post-bar crowd.
Beyond Powell's Books, the Pearl rewards wanderers. Cargo (NW 13th & Davis) curates imports from around the world — Japanese ceramics next to Mexican textiles. MadeHere PDX (NW 12th) stocks only Oregon-made products, from Jacobsen Salt to Bee Local honey.
For clothes, the REI flagship (NW 13th & Johnson) anchors the outdoor gear scene with a rental department for trying before buying. Lizard Lounge (NW 12th) dresses Portland's creative class in Scandinavian minimalism. On Saturdays, scout the North Park Blocks for food carts — the Nong's Khao Man Gai cart parks at NW 10th & Glisan most weekdays.
Yes, the Pearl is one of Portland's safest neighborhoods with well-lit streets and constant foot traffic. The area between NW 9th and 15th from Burnside to Thurman sees regular security patrols. Like any urban area, stay aware after dark, but violent crime remains extremely rare here.
PDX Airport sits 12 miles northeast — about 40 minutes on MAX Light Rail (Red Line from Union Station) or 20-30 minutes by car/rideshare depending on traffic. The MAX costs $2.50 and runs every 15 minutes. Many visitors find it easier than dealing with rental cars since you won't need one in the Pearl anyway.
Street parking uses the Portland Parking app with 3-hour limits ($2/hour). The SmartPark garage at NW 10th & Yamhill offers daily rates around $15. Many of our Pearl District rentals include dedicated parking spots — check your booking details. Honestly though, between walking, streetcar, and bikeshare, you might not touch your car all week.
The Pearl (NW 9th to 15th) features converted warehouses, modern high-rises, and art galleries with a more urban feel. Nob Hill (NW 21st to 23rd) has Victorian homes, boutique shopping, and tree-lined streets with more of a residential vibe. They blend together around NW 18th — an easy 15-minute walk between the two.
First Thursday happens the first Thursday of every month, year-round. Galleries stay open 5-9pm with new exhibitions, artist talks, and usually free wine. Start at Blue Sky Gallery (NW 9th & Davis) and work your way north. It's less crazy than Last Thursday in Alberta Arts District rentals but more polished — dress nice-ish.
