Free cancellationNortheast Portland pulses with creative energy along Alberta Street's gallery walk, Mississippi Avenue's music venues, and the tree-lined residential streets that connect them. This is where Portland's food scene truly shines — from Pok Pok's legendary wings on Division to Screen Door's brunch lines snaking around the block on East Burnside.
Our 89 vacation rentals put you in the heart of neighborhoods where locals actually live, eat, and play. Whether you're drawn to the vintage shops along NE Sandy, the craft cocktails on 28th Avenue, or simply want a front porch in the Irvington historic district, Northeast offers authentic Portland without the downtown price tag.
Home to Pok Pok, Screen Door, and dozens of food cart pods including the legendary one at NE 28th & Ankeny.
Last Thursday art walks bring thousands to galleries, street performers, and pop-ups along NE Alberta from 15th to 30th.
Protected bike lanes on NE Multnomah and Going connect to the entire eastside network. Most rentals include bike storage.
Walk to Breakside, Ex Novo, Ecliptic, and StormBreaker — plus cocktail havens like Expatriate and Bye and Bye.
Grant Park's Beverly Cleary sculptures, Irving Park's off-leash area, and Alberta Park's courts dot the neighborhoods.
MAX Blue Line stops at Hollywood, Lloyd Center, and Convention Center. Frequent bus lines on Sandy, Broadway, and MLK.
Start your morning at Extracto Coffee Roasters on Killingsworth — their NE roastery serves some of Portland's best espresso alongside fresh pastries. From there, it's an easy walk to Alberta Arts District rentals territory, where galleries mix with vintage shops selling everything from mid-century furniture to rare vinyl.
The real magic happens on Last Thursday (the final Thursday of each month), when Alberta Street transforms into an outdoor gallery from 15th to 30th Avenue. Street performers, food vendors, and thousands of locals create an energy you won't find anywhere else in Portland. If you're visiting during Feast Portland, many of the festival's best events happen right here in Northeast.
For a quieter afternoon, explore the Irvington neighborhood's historic homes (bounded by Broadway, Fremont, 7th, and 24th). The tree-lined streets showcase Portland architecture from 1890 to 1930, and you're never more than a few blocks from a great coffee shop or restaurant.
Most visitors find Northeast Portland perfectly walkable, especially if you're staying near commercial strips like Alberta, Mississippi, or Sandy Boulevard. The neighborhood grid makes navigation simple — numbered avenues run north-south, while named streets run east-west.
MAX Blue Line serves the southern edge of Northeast, with stops at Lloyd Center (NE 9th & Holladay), Convention Center (NE Holladay & MLK), and Hollywood (NE 42nd & Halsey). From Hollywood station, it's 20 minutes to downtown and 35 minutes to the airport. The #6 bus on MLK/Grand connects Northeast to SE Portland rentals areas, while the #4 runs frequently along Division all the way to Jade District.
Biking might be the best way to explore — protected bike lanes on Multnomah (east-west) and Going (east-west) connect to a network reaching every quadrant. Most of our rentals include secure bike parking, and Biketown stations dot the major commercial areas.
Northeast Portland holds Portland's highest concentration of exceptional restaurants per square mile — and that's not hyperbole. Start with the legends: Pok Pok (3226 SE Division) for fish sauce wings, Screen Door (2337 E Burnside) for Southern-style brunch, and Pine State Biscuits (multiple locations) for Reggie Deluxe sandwiches that cure any hangover.
The newer generation pushes boundaries just as hard. Canard (3354 SE Belmont) serves inventive brunch with a steam burger that defies physics. Matt's BBQ (4057 N Interstate) brings Texas-style brisket that sells out daily. Expatriate (5424 NE 30th) mixes Asian-fusion small plates with cocktails in a tiny space that's always packed.
For drinks, start at Breakside Brewery's original location (820 NE Dekum) where they pioneered fruit-forward IPAs. Ex Novo (2326 N Flint) donates profits to nonprofits while serving excellent lagers. Night owls head to Bye and Bye (1011 NE Alberta) for vegan bar food and stiff drinks, or Angel Face (14 NE 28th) for cocktails in a pink-lit fever dream. If you're craving Pearl District rentals style upscale dining, Northeast delivers at Coquine (6839 SE Belmont) and Beast (5425 NE 30th) — both require reservations weeks ahead.
While Portland Timbers games and Portland Thorns games happen across the river in Providence Park, Northeast Portland hosts major events at three key venues. The Oregon Convention Center (777 NE MLK) brings everything from comic conventions to Oregon Convention Center events throughout the year — our rentals near Lloyd Center put you walking distance away.
The Rose Quarter hosts Trail Blazers games and major concerts at Moda Center, with the neighboring Veterans Memorial Coliseum hosting everything from Portland Winterhawks hockey to roller derby. During Portland Rose Festival, the entire Rose Quarter becomes festival grounds.
Northeast Portland's commercial districts — Alberta, Mississippi, Hawthorne, Belmont — are well-lit and busy into the evening hours, particularly Thursday through Sunday. Like any urban area, use common sense after dark. Our vacation rentals cluster in residential neighborhoods with long-term neighbors who look out for each other. Areas east of 82nd Avenue transition to more suburban, with different dynamics than inner Northeast.
Northeast Portland sits 12-20 minutes from PDX by car, depending on your exact location. The MAX Blue Line connects the airport to Northeast in 35-40 minutes, with stops at Hollywood (NE 42nd), Lloyd Center, and Convention Center. Uber/Lyft typically costs $25-35. Many guests staying for extended stay Portland find the easy airport access perfect for regular trips.
Burnside Street divides Northeast from Southeast Portland. While both offer great food and walkable neighborhoods, Northeast tends toward slightly quieter residential streets mixed with concentrated commercial districts. SE Portland rentals cluster more densely along Division, Hawthorne, and Belmont. Northeast offers more single-family homes with yards, making it popular for family vacation rentals.
Downtown Portland sits 2-3 miles from most Northeast neighborhoods — walkable for some, but most prefer the 10-15 minute bike ride or quick transit hop. The #6 bus on MLK/Grand reaches downtown in 15 minutes, while MAX Blue Line from Lloyd Center takes 10 minutes. Many visitors prefer Northeast's lower prices and neighborhood feel to staying downtown.
Many of our Northeast properties welcome pets — check our pet-friendly rentals in Portland for specific options. The neighborhood's abundance of parks makes it ideal for dogs: Irving Park has a popular off-leash area, while Laurelhurst Park (technically SE but bordering NE) offers 27 acres of paths. Most restaurants with patios welcome well-behaved dogs.
