Portland calls itself "America's bike capital" and most cities that say that are lying. Portland is mostly telling the truth — separated bike lanes downtown, a real cycling culture, routes that take you from urban core to old-growth forest in twenty minutes. If you're staying in town and you ride, the question isn't whether to bike-tour. It's who to ride with.
Cycle Portland is the operator we send cyclist-guests to. They run tours and rentals out of their Old Town shop and they're the only operator we know of in Portland running a guided gravel tour.
Why We Recommend Them
Curated tour list, four real options. Each tour has a distinct angle — Essential Portland (waterfront, bridges, neighborhoods), Forest Park Gravel (dirt-only), Brews Cruise (breweries by bike), Foodie Field Trip (roasters, food carts, dessert). Not generic loops dressed up with different names.
Portland's only guided gravel tour. Forest Park has miles of fire roads — Cycle Portland is the only operator running guided rides on them. If you've ever wanted to ride dirt within city limits, this is how.
Bike rentals are a real product, not an afterthought. If you don't want a tour but want to ride for a day, Cycle Portland rents quality bikes with helmets, locks, and route maps included.
Old Town location. The shop at 180 NW 3rd Ave is a 10-minute walk from most of downtown Portland and most of our central Stay Portland properties.
