The Alberta Arts District is Portland at its most creative and colorful. Stretching along Alberta Street in Northeast Portland, this neighborhood is a living gallery -- nearly every block features murals, public art installations, and independently owned shops and restaurants that reflect the community's fiercely independent spirit. It's the kind of place where a world-class brunch spot sits next to a vintage record store, and a craft cocktail bar shares a wall with a community bike shop.
Staying on or near Alberta Street means you're walking distance from some of Portland's most beloved restaurants and cafes. Salt & Straw started here. Tin Shed Garden Cafe has been a brunch institution for decades. And the stretch between 15th and 30th Avenues packs in more personality per block than most cities manage in an entire downtown. On the last Thursday of each month (May through September), the street closes to traffic for Last Thursday -- a massive art walk with live music, food vendors, and pop-up galleries.
Our Alberta Arts District rentals are in the residential streets just off the main corridor -- quiet enough to sleep well, close enough to walk everywhere. These are classic Portland homes: craftsman bungalows, colorful Victorians, and updated cottages on tree-lined blocks. You'll feel like a local from the moment you arrive.
Last Thursday is a free monthly art walk held on the last Thursday of each month from May through September. Alberta Street closes to traffic and fills with artists, musicians, food vendors, and thousands of locals. It's one of Portland's most beloved community events.
Alberta is packed with excellent dining. Highlights include Tin Shed Garden Cafe (brunch), Salt & Straw (ice cream), Bollywood Theater (Indian street food), Pine State Biscuits, and Proud Mary (Australian-style coffee and brunch). There are also outstanding food carts and casual spots on nearly every block.
Alberta is about 15 minutes from downtown by car and well-served by the #72 bus line. Many guests find they don't need to leave the neighborhood much -- Alberta Street itself has everything you need for a full day of eating, shopping, and exploring.
Absolutely. Alberta Park has a great playground, the neighborhood is very walkable, and there are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants and ice cream shops. The residential streets off Alberta are quiet and safe, with a strong community feel.
