Portland's most eclectic, walkable neighborhoods — Hawthorne, Division, Belmont, and Clinton — with independent shops, food carts, and vibrant dining.
Portland, Oregon, United States
Commonly known as “Foodie Row,” the Hawthorne/Buckman District puts you within walking distance of a wide variety of top-notch local flavors (no chain restaurants here!). Make new friends over vegan poutine fries and grilled PB&Js at the Cartopia food cart pod, savor wings just around the corner at Fire on the Mountain, share a pie at Apizza Scholls (consistently voted Portland’s favorite pizza), or enjoy a fancy night out at Castagna—all within a 1.5-mile stretch. Portland isn't just for foodies; the vibrant indie spirit of Hawthorne shines through with numerous made-in-Oregon shops and boutiques to explore in this hipster haven. Catch a movie at Bagdad Theater and Pub, a revamped 1920s theater turned view-and-brew venue serving local McMenamins food and microbrews. If bar hopping through neighborhoods isn’t your idea of recreation, head up to Mt. Tabor, a 196-acre city park atop a dormant volcano vent. Here, you’ll find miles of hiking trails and incredible panoramic views of the city. The diverse attractions in the Hawthorne/Buckman District ensure there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Bob is a real gentleman and bent over backward to accommodate my needs. I slept well in the comfy bed. Would definitely stay again.

Loved the location. Very walkable. Lots of breweries and coffee shops nearby. Host was very responsive to our questions.

Bob was incredibly helpful when we needed to change our arrival date due to train issues and all his instructions were really clear. He volunteered that the cleaners were done early on our check-in day, which turned out to be super convenient because we arrived earlier than expected. It was an easy, homey place to stay, the other apartments were very quiet, and there were fewer street/people noises on the weekend nights than we expected -- despite concerts at Revolution Hall. I loved the window seat ... read my book and took a nap there! We didn't have a car, so we walked a lot and the neighborhood side streets have fun houses and yards. This location worked out beautifully for a visit to see our little granddaughter who lives ~1/2 mile away. We would stay here again.

Loved how close we were to the show.

I enjoyed my stay overall in Bob's place. The location was easy to find and conveniently located. It was on a rather quiet residential street, but there was plenty to walk to nearby and utilizing public transit from this location was easy. It's not the most modern in appearances, but it definitely has a cozy appeal. The amenities were as described. The AC does a good job of keeping the place at your preferred temperature. There is, however, a curious lack of accessible outlets within reach of the bed. I really appreciated how proactive and responsive Bob was as a host; certainly one of the best ones I've ever had in this regard. Unfortunately I ran into some challenges with access to the property that weren't Bob's fault, but these significantly marred my trip overall and because of this I can't in good conscience give more than 3 stars for this stay.

We loved having our morning cup of coffee at the window seat! Large, comfortable studio space, quiet, great location. It was hard to keep it cool at night during the heat wave, even with the AC on. Entrance could use more cleaning.
