Boutique shopping, cozy restaurants, and tree-lined Victorian streets at the base of Forest Park — Portland's 5,200-acre urban forest.
Portland, Oregon, United States
Welcome to Northwest Portland—one of the city’s most iconic and beloved neighborhoods. Nestled in the heart of the historic Alphabet District, this walkable enclave blends old Portland charm with a vibrant, modern lifestyle. Tree-lined streets and beautifully preserved homes give the area a timeless feel, while just around the corner, NW 23rd Avenue (affectionately known as “Trendy Third”) buzzes with life. This popular stretch is packed with locally owned boutiques, chef-driven restaurants, cozy cafés, cocktail bars, and dessert spots like Salt & Straw and Papa Haydn. Whether you’re up for a leisurely brunch, window shopping, or an evening of wine and small plates, it’s all right outside your door. Outdoor lovers will appreciate being minutes from Washington Park—home to the world-renowned Japanese Garden, International Rose Test Garden, and Oregon Zoo. Just beyond that lies Forest Park, one of the largest urban forests in the U.S., offering over 80 miles of hiking and biking trails through lush Pacific Northwest wilderness. Cultural highlights are also close at hand. Spend an afternoon browsing the Portland Art Museum, catch an indie film at historic Cinema 21, or explore nearby galleries and pop-up events. The neighborhood frequently hosts farmers’ markets, art walks, and street fairs that make you feel like part of the local rhythm. With its unbeatable mix of walkability, dining, nature, and culture, this location offers an authentic Portland experience that keeps guests coming back.

Fun place. Very charming. Close to all that 23rd has to offer.

A challenging but wonderful experience Above all, the residence is located in a very popular area, so you can easily walk to restaurants, bars, and cafés. It’s perfect for enjoying breakfast or dinner with your family. Many hotels only provide two beds even when four people are staying, but this place prepared four separate beds for us. We were truly delighted. A new and trendy supermarket has opened just a few blocks away. Since the room has a kitchen, you can cook the ingredients you buy there. The coffee maker and the variety of spices provided in the kitchen were excellent. I traveled from Japan with my family, and I expected to check in face‑to‑face and receive the key from a staff member, just like at a typical hotel. However, even at the scheduled check‑in time, no one showed up. To enter the residence, completing the pre‑check‑in process on a smartphone is mandatory. I had to sit on the stairs facing the street and scan my passport, take a selfie, and enter my credit card information. We managed to check in eventually, but I would not recommend this place to senior travelers who are not familiar with such procedures. At the final stage of the electronic check‑in process, you are prompted to purchase insurance for the room’s equipment. I ended up paying $80 by credit card for a $500 damage‑coverage plan. In reality, you should be prepared for an additional $80 on top of your travel expenses. On Booking.com, the listing says “public parking available,” but it is far from the residence. Since 23rd Ave is a very popular area, street parking right in front of the building is rarely available. I stayed with my family of four and a rental car, and it was quite difficult to unload our suitcases anywhere close to the entrance. The building is a historic American structure, and naturally, there is no elevator. You must carry your suitcases by hand up to the second‑floor living area or the third‑floor bedrooms. Because the building is old, there are ants inside. Perhaps they are nocturnal—at night, we saw a line of ants in the bathroom (my wife noticed them and screamed). The water pressure in the shower was weak, and it was not very satisfying.

Great location. We had a few issues come up during the stay but I appreciate Kimberly's willingness to make it right.

We had a great stay in June of 2026! We rented all four units to be able to be together with our adult children and still have some privacy. The units were clean, comfortable, well-appointed and anticipated the dogs with treats, bowls and towels. It was just a block to the beach, and then about a 10 minute stroll south to Haystack or north to the inlet. Would definitely stay again!

We had a wonderful time at Connors house. The location had everything we need in walking distance; shops restaurants, parks, etc. It was centrally located and easy to get around the city. The house was perfect for our small family. Thanks, Connor!
