Portland's most eclectic, walkable neighborhoods — Hawthorne, Division, Belmont, and Clinton — with independent shops, food carts, and vibrant dining.
Portland, Oregon, United States
Commonly known as “Foodie Row,” the Hawthorne/Buckman District places you within walking distance of a wide variety of top-notch local flavors—no chain restaurants here! Enjoy vegan poutine fries and grilled PB&Js at the Cartopia food cart pod, share a pie at Apizza Scholls (consistently voted Portland’s favorite pizza), or opt for an elegant night out at Castagna—all within a 1.5-mile stretch. But Portland isn’t just for foodies. The vibrant indie spirit of Hawthorne is alive with a multitude of made-in-Oregon shops and boutiques, making it a true hipster haven. Catch a movie at Bagdad Theater and Pub, a revamped 1920s theater turned view-and-brew venue serving local McMenamins food and microbrews. If bar hopping through neighborhoods isn’t your idea of recreation, head up to Mt. Tabor. This 196-acre city park, located atop a dormant volcano vent, offers miles of hiking trails and incredible panoramic views of the city, providing a perfect escape into nature right within the city limits. Whether you're a foodie, a nature enthusiast, or someone who loves exploring unique shops, the Hawthorne/Buckman District has something special for everyone.

This is multi family apartment style building and we got a basement level unit. Hence, the noise from the footsteps and movement upstairs is unbearable. We hear it the entire day and night non stop. You hear the cars all day as well. It is not kid friendly at all. The photos make the place look bigger than it is. The washer is disgusting with black mold in it. Living room smaller than shown in pics. Also quite expensive considering the valuation of the unit. On the bright side the neighbourhood is nice with great food and vintage shops within walking distance.

We had a great stay in this basement apartment! Our host was incredibly communicative — quick to respond to every message, and even provided white noise machines when we asked, which was a nice touch for our kids. The beds were super comfortable, having an in-unit washer and dryer was a huge plus for a family trip, and the location was fantastic for getting around. A few things to know before booking: the wifi was inconsistent and needed frequent resets, which was occasionally frustrating. The kitchen is quite small and sparse, so it's better suited for breakfasts and simple meals rather than cooking full dinners — plan accordingly if you're staying a while. The concrete floors, while stylish, didn't always feel truly clean no matter how much we tidied. We also heard some noise from the unit above, though it wasn't a major issue. Overall, this was a comfortable, well-located home base with a responsive host — just go in with realistic expectations about the kitchen and wifi.
