Pros: The area was super walkable and didn't disappoint. Aj welcomed us as soon as we booked, and was quick to respond. Cons: I really wish that the layout for the place had been published. The second bedroom was only accessible through the bathroom, which did not have a fan, only a window. Additionally, the parking situation made it so we couldn't use the parking spot. There was space in the neighborhood, but as someone unfamiliar with and visiting the city, I booked this place over others because it has parking listed. We spoke with the owner about the other guests taking our spot, but there wasn't a satisfying solution to the problem, just that we should park in the neighborhood. The downstairs guests also changed out during our stay, and we had the same issue where the spot was taken. Maybe instructions for where to park should be clearer to make parking more seemless? Or when staying at this spot expect to park on the street.

AJ was the most communicative host I have ever had. The place is right off SE Hawthorne, perfect for my thrifting and great food trip. It is right on a busy street but AJ provided a sound machine, which helped me. I really liked how tall the ceiling was in the shower, and shower head. The kitchen had more countertop space than I thought, which was nice.

Great location. Sweet and cozy attic apartment. Bathroom and second bedroom are a little awkward, but manageable

AJ was great. He was responsive and answered questions right away. Great location in Hawthorne and a good space. 2nd bedroom is a little tight and in an awkward spot but functional. Parking is a little tight as well if you're driving a full size pickup/SUV.

We had a great stay at AJ’s place the weekend of Halloween. Lots of great restaurants and shops within walking distance, including a branch of Powell’s books, and some great vintage clothing shops. The apartment was cozy and inviting, and the beds were extremely comfortable.
Rebecca
Really nice place, spotless and real convenient location near cool areas on Hawthorne.

Portland's most eclectic, walkable neighborhoods — Hawthorne, Division, Belmont, and Clinton — with independent shops, food carts, and vibrant dining.

Often compared to San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, Portland’s Hawthorne District is renowned for its vintage shops, restored theaters, street performers, and vibrant creative characters. This eclectic mix makes it one of the city’s top destinations for both locals and visitors. Adding to its charm, the neighborhood boasts a standout food scene, making a day spent on the bustling Southeast street an effortless delight.
