Overlook sits on the bluff above the Willamette, and this house is on a quiet street near the edge of it. Walk about 45 seconds down the road and you reach Mocks Crest Property, which everyone in Portland calls the Skidmore Bluffs. It's a grassy overlook with one of the best sunset views in the city: the river, the rail yards, Swan Island, the Fremont and St. Johns bridges, and the West Hills beyond. You can't see it from the house, but you can be standing there with a blanket before the light drops. Overlook Park is a few minutes the other way, eleven acres with a playground, an off-leash dog area, a track and courts. N Mississippi Avenue, about a twenty minute walk, is the neighborhood's main strip: Gravy for a big breakfast, Prost Marketplace when everyone wants something different, Por Que No for tacos, Lovely's Fifty Fifty for sourdough pizza, and Mississippi Studios for live music.
