Portland has more breweries per capita than almost anywhere on earth. That's a problem for a visitor with a long weekend and an interest in beer — you can't reasonably wander between taprooms in three different neighborhoods and have a coherent experience. You need a guide.
The brewery tour we send guests to is City Brew Tours Portland — the operation long-time Portlanders may still know as Brewvana. The Brewvana brand was the original local Portland operator. It's now part of the City Brew Tours franchise, but the Portland tours and the Portland team stayed local. The institutional knowledge — the relationships with brewers across the city — is what carried over.
Why We Recommend Them
Curated, not comprehensive. The Portland Signature Brew Tour hits 3-4 breweries — enough to taste a real range of styles without losing the day to logistics. Most guests come away with a small-batch hophead favorite, a sour or saison from someone weird, and a flagship stop. They don't try to hit every brewery in the city — they hit the ones doing something distinct.
Behind-the-scenes brewer access. Several stops include taproom meet-ups with the brewers themselves. You leave understanding how Portland beer is made, not just that it's good.
They handle the driving. The whole point of a brewery tour is that you don't have to negotiate parking or sober rides between SE Industrial and St. Johns. They do all of it, including a gourmet snack break to keep you upright through the afternoon.
Press they don't have to invent. Featured in the New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, and Thrillist.
