One of the most loved homes on Stay Portland, based on ratings, reviews, and reliability.
David's place was such a great choice in the area, within less than a five minute walk you can be at a coffee shop, bar, or restaurant. There was also a little bodega shop 1 minute down the block. If you're looking for a walkable location (within very short driving distance of other amenities like a grocery store) in this area of Portland, this is the place! Since it's a basement apartment you could hear people walking above you but whether the people above us were just quiet or you actually can't hear through the floor, we never heard anything other than footsteps from above. However, the walls in the apartment between the back two bedrooms were VERY thin. So beware of that if you're traveling with groups. David doesn't require any guest cleaning upon check out and we really appreciated that! It's rare for hosts to be like that these days and that was a big plus for us. The parking was a great amenity for the area. Overall, I would recommend David's place!
An old home that's been nicely redecorated but has some quirks to be aware of. The first unit I checked into had no heating thermostat anywhere and the only heat control was a broken mini split unit that would not power on, situated down the hall in the bedroom. Very drafty as a result. Then a comedy of errors ensued when the host's helpers (this host is very likely not local, FYI) delivered two tiny space heaters, which when plugged in proceeded to short circuit the entire apartment. Just like that, no lights, no TV. I had to message the host and call Airbnb by the light of the open refrigerator door. Long and short, after an hour, still no lights, heat waning, so the host proactively put me in the basement apartment which was luckily available for the night. Airbnb was a great help in cutting short the reservation and getting me into another place for the rest of my trip. I travel very often and this property just fell really short of my usual amazing experiences w/ Airbnb.
Loved our stay here! Would absolutely stay again. It was clean and walking distance to Mississippi Studios.
Rachael was a wonderful guest communicative, responsive, kind, clean, and easy-going. All around, a pleasure to host. I highly recommend Rachael as a guest and would happily welcome Rachael back anytime.
This was a great spot and I’d definitely stay here again - very walkable and the unit was just as described & shown in the pics. David was also extremely accommodating and allowed us to check out a bit later on our last day before leaving for the airport which was much appreciated!
We had a nice stay on Mississippi Ave!

Welcome to the Boise neighborhood — a vibrant, walkable gem on Portland’s east side. Often referred to as “Boise-Eliot,” the area blends the best of two iconic streets: Mississippi Avenue and Williams Avenue. Each has its own unique rhythm, with Mississippi known for its historic charm and Williams for its sleek modern edge. Together, they form one of Portland’s most beloved neighborhoods. This is a community that celebrates diversity, creativity, and local entrepreneurship. You’ll find a friendly mix of families, artists, young professionals, and long-time residents who proudly support the independent businesses that line every block. Just steps from your door, you’ll discover some of the city’s most celebrated restaurants — including Eem (Thai BBQ), La Cocina (Oaxacan), Life of Pie, XLB, and Kayo’s Ramen — along with boutique coffee shops, vintage stores, yoga studios, barbershops, and hidden gems you’ll only find in Portland. Mississippi Avenue’s famed food cart pod, breweries, and music venues are just a short walk away. Need groceries? New Seasons Market (Portland’s local answer to Whole Foods) is only a few blocks from the house. Whether you’re here for the food, the culture, or the people — this neighborhood is the perfect home base for your Portland adventure.
