You're in Kerns - one of NE Portland's best-kept secrets for food. The neighborhood is centered around the 28th Avenue restaurant corridor, where you can walk to James Beard-nominated dinners, authentic Cuban food, craft beer, and Vietnamese cocktails without ever needing a car. Han Oak is the standout - chef Peter Cho's Korean restaurant has been featured on Netflix's Ugly Delicious and Somebody Feed Phil, and he's a multiple James Beard Award nominee. The seasonal tasting menus are built around Oregon ingredients and Korean traditions, and late nights sometimes turn into karaoke (seriously). Book ahead - this one fills up. Pambiche is a Portland institution serving Cuban family recipes since 2000. The building is impossible to miss (painted floor-to-ceiling in Caribbean colors with a massive Havana mural), and the lechón asado and mojitos are the real deal. No reservations, just walk in. Friendship Kitchen does incredible Vietnamese food with creative cocktails - the pho and bánh mì are some of the best in Portland, and the patio is great on warm evenings. Migration Brewing is our go-to for craft beer - a converted radiator shop with 30 taps, garage door walls that open up in summer, and a dog-friendly patio. Seven Virtues Coffee Roasters is a family-owned neighborhood roaster doing single-origin coffee and house-made food - the perfect morning start.
